It was over 100 years ago this year when our great grandfather, Charles Hutchinson, started a small local building business, marking the beginning of a knowledge base and a family firm that was to pass from generation to generation. This tradition is proudly carried on today by our Director – Robert Hutchinson, who’s eldest son, Mathew, is part of the management team following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather before him.
Today, we can boast a fourth generation family run business which continues to go from strength to strength, with contracts now underway nationwide. Our reputation for quality of service and workmanship has been taken one step further by subscribing to the UK’s largest register for pre-qualified contractors – Constructionline. We firmly believe such monitoring is vital, as it provides our customers with peace of mind, whilst allowing us to constantly review and work with them to improve our service and win the trust of new clients. We also believe that by recognising and understanding the needs of our clients, and by working alongside them in a partnership role, we can build on our success and win repeat business. In fact, our commitment to customer service, communication, openness and continual improvement underpins our company in the 21st century.

Robert has overall responsibility for our Company and is the 4th generation of the Hutchinson family to run the firm. Robert is IOSH qualified in Managing Safely, SMSTS, and leads the team with a hands-on approach to the day-to-day running of the business, heading-up team and Senior Management meetings and reviewing performance across the business.
Sam runs our accounts and administration team, including overseeing HR, staff and sub-contractor management and payroll.
Senior Surveyor/Contract Manager
Martin liaises with office and site management, on a daily-basis, to ensure that programmes, systems and procedures are adhered to. Martin is a member of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers and has extensive experience of working on and managing public authority projects, from large commercial premises to domestic dwellings, overseeing our systems and new bids, estimating, programming, monitoring, auditing and reporting to the Directors.
Senior Quantity Surveyor/Commercial Manager
Clin has the benefit of having worked for many large contractors over the years and also has a wealth of experience in both the private and public sectors, both client and contractor side. Clin oversees all commercial and contractual matters, working closely with our Operations and Senior Management teams.
Mathew organises and supports our trained site managers and staff, ensuring that every one of our sites is run to the highest possible standards, whilst delivering value for money. Mathew is also SMSTS trained himself, PASMA accredited, UKATA trained, and also has Occupational Construction Supervision qualifications. Mathew coordinates site level activities, and provides assistance to our staff on the ground, as well as liaising with sub-contractors and representatives to ensure their requirements and standards are met.
Ryan is a quantity surveyor who undertakes all aspects of commercial management for Hutchinson’s. Ryan liaises with the clients to understand the project requirements and strives to provide value for money during all stages from tender all the way through to final account. Ryan has over 5 years of experience dealing with residential new build, commercial and educational refurbishment projects.
David has recently joined us to head the newly formed Surveying and Design division of the company. He has spent over 45 years working within the construction field at a progressively senior professional and technical level undertaking a wide range of duties and responsibilities. Specific skills and expertise encompass; extensive core building and condition surveying experience: Project design, specification and administration: Project management and contract administration: Management of multidisciplinary design teams both in-house and through external consultants.
Ryan provides support to the operations manager with the day-to-day running of sites to make sure they are running to a high standard. He also Liaises with sub-contractors to make sure everything is running smoothly.
Finance and Office Manager
Sandra supports our Directors, Robert and Sam, adding valuable experience and knowledge to our finance team. Sandra also often supports our Senior Management in the production and issue of accounts, invoicing, and assists with the efficient management of suppliers and sub-contractors in line with our accredited systems. Sandra also runs the day-to-day accounts department.
